FAQ

FAQ on FIG sizes, materials, pressure testing, certificates and lead times for Steinhart oilfield fittings.

By Steinhart Export Team , Technical Sales · 2026-08-18

Common questions about FIG hammer unions, manifold fittings, materials, testing, certificates and export lead times from Steinhart Petroleum Piping.

FAQ

What FIG sizes and nominal diameters do you supply?

We supply FIG602, FIG1002, FIG1502 and FIG2002. Nominal sizes typically range from 2" to 6". Reducing and custom-made types are supported.

What is the difference between T-type tee and Y-type (manifold) tee?

Y-type tee offers lower pressure drop and is ideal for high-flow fracturing jobs. T-type tee is widely used for general pipeline branching.

Long-radius elbow vs standard elbow?

Long-radius elbows reduce fluid resistance and medium erosion and are preferred for high-pressure fracturing service.

Can you make flange–hammer union crossover spools? What flange classes are available?

Yes. API 6A flanges at 5,000 PSI, 10,000 PSI and 15,000 PSI are available for crossover with different FIG hammer unions.

Can manifold skids be customized according to customer drawings?

Yes. Provide layout drawing, working pressure, nominal size and connection types — we offer complete skid design.

What is the main body material? Is it 4130 alloy steel?

Main forged body is 4130 alloy steel. Seal material optional: NBR or FKM.

Are your fittings suitable for H₂S sour service? Compliant with NACE MR0175?

Sour-service version is available with proper heat treatment to meet NACE MR0175. Standard version is NOT for H₂S application. Please inform us of medium condition when ordering.

What media are compatible? Fracturing fluid, mud, crude oil?

Suitable for fracturing fluid, mud, crude oil and fresh water. For highly corrosive media, advise us for special material and seal selection.

Temperature range for seals?

NBR: −20°C to +120°C; FKM: −20°C to +200°C. FKM is required for high-temperature working conditions.

Working pressure and hydrotest pressure?

Hydrostatic test shall be 1.5 times rated working pressure, in accordance with API 6A.

Is hydrotest performed on every piece? Can you provide test reports?

100% hydrotest or batch sampling can be arranged as requested. Hydrotest report, NDT report and material certificate are available.

What is burst pressure?

Burst pressure is approximately 4 times rated working pressure; type-test reports can be supplied.

Why does a hammer union leak in field operation?

Common causes: seal damage, thread impact and scratch, improper tightening torque, and medium erosion.

Are your parts interchangeable with SPM / FMC brand?

Yes — same FIG dimensions, fully interchangeable.

Do you have API 6A certification?

Products comply with API 6A. We provide MTR, heat-treatment report, NDT report and hydrotest report.

Do you support third-party inspection?

Yes. SGS or other third-party inspection is acceptable.

Which items are in stock? What is lead time?

Standard FIG1002 / FIG1502 hammer unions, tees and elbows are in stock. Custom-built products: typically 15–30 working days.

How long is your quotation valid?

Due to fluctuation of raw material and ocean freight, quotations are normally valid for 7–15 days.

Export packing method?

Plywood case or pallet packing for ocean shipment, protecting threads from damage in transit.

What is MOQ?

Small trial orders are acceptable for standard items. Custom-made products have a minimum order requirement.
